QuizCraic privacy policy

For players aged 16 and over.

Last updated: 30 September 2026.

Who we are

QuizCraic is made by Selkware Software ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information QuizCraic collects, why, and what you can do about it. Questions, or want to see, correct or delete your data? Contact us at info@selkware.com.

QuizCraic is for ages 16 and over

QuizCraic asks for your month and year of birth once, the first time you open it. Only whether you are 16 or over is kept, on your phone — your date of birth is never sent to us. Younger players are pointed to QuizCraic Junior, our separate app for children, which has no ads.

What we collect

  • A nickname you pick — not your real name. It appears on leaderboards and the World Rankings.
  • A 4-digit PIN, stored only as a one-way cryptographic hash.
  • A sport and team choice (GAA, AFL, or Rugby, and a team within it). GAA players can also pick a club, set their own club colours, and have the club titles they win saved.
  • Optional club colour suggestions, as in QuizCraic Junior.
  • An optional recovery email. We email a code to confirm it and, only when you ask, a code to reset a forgotten PIN or a reminder of your nickname. Encrypted before storage and never shown to anyone.
  • Quiz results and game history (scores, categories, Championship titles, badges), which make up your World Ranking.
  • Basic technical data any app receives automatically — not linked to your profile.

Advertising

QuizCraic is free because it shows ads (unless you buy QuizCraic Pro, below), served by Google AdMob: a banner on some menu screens, a full-screen ad now and then between games, and — only if you choose — a short ad to replay a lost Championship round. Ads never appear during a question.

To show and measure ads, Google collects information from your device, such as its advertising ID, IP address and approximate location. In the EEA and UK you are asked first whether Google may use this to personalise ads; you can change your choice any time in Settings → "Ads & privacy". Ads are limited to content suitable for teenagers. See Google's privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy) for how Google uses this information.

We never give Google (or anyone) your nickname, PIN or game history.

In-app purchase (QuizCraic Pro)

QuizCraic is free to play. QuizCraic Pro is an optional one-off purchase that removes ads and adds unlimited Online Cups, full stats and ad-free Championship replays. It is sold and processed by Google Play: we never see your card or payment details. Google Play tells the app that Pro has been bought (and, if you reinstall or change phone, restores it to the same Google account); we don't link the purchase to your nickname or send it to our server. Refunds are handled by Google Play under its refund policy.

How we protect it

  • PINs are never stored in plain text — only a salted, one-way hash (PBKDF2).
  • Repeated wrong PIN attempts temporarily lock an account.

Where it's stored

QuizCraic's database is hosted with Supabase in the EU, so your profile and game data stay within the EU.

Who we share it with

Google, as our advertising provider (see Advertising), and Resend, the email-sending service that delivers recovery emails (it receives only the email address and the message). Nobody else outside the infrastructure needed to run QuizCraic. We don't sell data.

How long we keep it

There's no fixed automatic deletion schedule yet — your data is kept while your profile is in use. World Ranking points only count for 12 months. You can delete your profile yourself at any time in Settings → "Delete my profile" (your PIN is needed); this permanently removes it and all of its game history.

On this device

QuizCraic remembers your signed-in profile, your age-check answer, when you last saw a full-screen ad, whether you have Pro, how many free Online Cups you have used today, and the game list shown in "Your stats" on this device. The "Your stats" list stays on your phone and is not sent to us. Clearing the app's data removes them.

Your rights

Under GDPR you can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how it's used, or receive a copy. Contact info@selkware.com. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page and in the app.
